The Detroit Tigers (19-13) and Minnesota Twins (18-14) are meeting for their third time already in this young season. The Tigers are coming off a series against the Kansas City Royals at home where they went 1-2, ending with a crushing loss on Sunday night in extra innings. The Tigers are now 4-6 in their last ten games, as they are struggling a bit down the stretch. As for the Twins, they are on fire as of late as they are 8-2 in their last ten games.
The Tigers will have to figure out how to shut down Torii Hunter, who is batting .379 in his last seven games with three home runs and 9 RBI’s.
They will also have to figure their way around Mike Pelfrey, who is the only Twins pitcher so far this season to beat the Tigers. Pelfrey went seven innings allowing only one run in Minnesota’s only victory against Detroit this season back on April 28th in Minneapolis.
Twins/Tigers Recent History
The Tigers have gone 5-1 against the Twins this season thus far in their two previous meetings . The Tigers swept the Twins in the first series of the year holding them to only one run in the entire series. This ins’t the same Twins team the Tigers saw in the opening series however. The Twins are currently only one game behind the Tigers (who are in 2nd, 1.5 games behind the Royals) in the AL Central Division, as they sit in third place. Not many people saw this coming especially from the Twins, which will make for a good series regardless. Hopefully the Tigers can continue their onslaught against the Twins throughout the week.
