Detroit City FC steps up to the plate with bargain offer for Detroit Tigers fans

Fans of the Detroit Tigers and baseball are certainly disappointed with today’s lack of progress between Major League Baseball owners and the Players Association, both of whom failed to come to an agreement that would keep the 2022 schedule as it is.

For the first time in 27 years, a labor dispute has postponed Opening Day and cancelled scheduled games. Here in the Motor City, Detroit Tigers Opening Day at Comerica Park is an unofficial holiday, and the originally scheduled home opener on April 8 against the Chicago White Sox has been put off; they had been slated to open the season on the road with matchups against Seattle and Oakland.

But as the Tigers have delayed stepping to the plate, one other local franchise is doing so. Detroit City FC is setting aside an allotment of tickets for baseball fans with Opening Day/season tickets to attend their games in March and April for free.

“A sports town is only as strong as its traditions, and opening day is the biggest tradition in Detroit sports,” DCFC co-owner Alex Wright said in a statement. “This year, families and friends are missing out, yet we are powerless to do anything about it. In response, DCFC offers a new tradition: make one of our home matches your Opening Day this spring. All fans have to do is show they have baseball season tickets or home opener tickets, and we will show them the most electrifying and affordable sporting event in town is still open for business. Memories shouldn’t have to wait for baseball to sort itself out.”

Tigers fans who hold those tickets can select any of the following matches, which are played at Keyworth Stadium in Hamtramck: March 19, March 26, April 2, April 5, April 15 and April 30.

For additional information, fans can contact the DCFC’s ticket office at (313) 634-DCFC or email [email protected].
