What a difference a year makes for Martinez

I would like to give a HUGE shout out today to the Houston Astros, and thank them for releasing J.D. Martinez.  He has been nothing short of spectacular for the Tigers since signing with them last March.

Today marks one year since the Tigers took a chance and signed Martinez to a minor league contract, and they have not looked back.  Martinez was a low risk, high reward type of player and the Tigers reaped the benefits of him finally breaking out of his shell and letting the baseball world know he means business.  All he did last season was put up a .315 average with 23 home runs, 76 RBI’s and a .912 OPS.

This Spring Training he has yet to disappoint and has continued where he left off.  He looks poised yet again to put up monster numbers this season.  With guys hitting around him like Miguel Cabrera, Victor Martinez, and Yoenis Cespedes there seems to be no reason he won’t continue to have another good season.
