Detroit kicks things off with a trip to Lambeau Field. This one won’t be easy, it never is, but I think the Lions escape with a 27-24 victory over the Packers. Jared Goff and Amon-Ra St. Brown make just enough plays late to quiet the crowd in Green Bay and start the season 1-0.
Week 2: Bears at Lions
Week 2 brings plenty of storylines, as Detroit squares off against former offensive coordinator Ben Johnson, now head coach of the Chicago Bears. The familiarity could make things interesting early, but ultimately, the Lions have too much firepower. I’m predicting a convincing 34-20 win at Ford Field.
Week 3: Lions at Ravens
Here’s where it gets tricky. Traveling to Baltimore in Week 3 to face Lamar Jackson and the Ravens feels like a tough spot. The Lions arguably have the deeper roster, but coming off two emotional divisional games, this one has all the makings of a letdown. I think Detroit falls in a thriller, 27-24, in what could be a Super Bowl preview.
The Bottom Line
I’ve got the Lions starting 2-1, with their first loss coming in Week 3 against Baltimore. But that doesn’t change the bigger picture, Detroit is still poised for another huge season and will be in the thick of the NFC playoff race.
