Detroit Lions add secret weapon to training camp

2018 marked Matt Patricia’s first training camp with the Detroit Lions.

During that camp, it was well-documented that some players were not thrilled with the amount of conditioning Patricia put them through.

That being said, everything the Lions’ head coach does seems very calculated.

This season, Patricia has had a secret weapon installed at the Lions’ practice facility in Allen Park.

That secret weapon is a training hill.

From Detroit News:

“You know, the hill, or different training things that we try to do and improve on, are always thing we’ve researched that will help players and their training,” Patricia said. “It could be anything from rehabilitation issues — or something that we use from that standpoint — conditioning, improving lower-body strength, lengthening run strides, protecting different muscle groups, and we use it in different capacities. Depending on the day it might be used in different facets. It’s just another piece of equipment for us to go out there and improve from a physical standpoint.”

Running up a hill to improve conditioning is not something that’s new to the NFL as Bill Belichick has implemented it with the Patriots and San Francisco 49ers great Jerry Rice was know for running miles up a hill in the offseason.

Nation, do you think the new hill at Allen Park could be and advantage for the Lions down the road?
