Detroit Lions awarded former Pro Bowl alternate off waivers; Teez Tabor to be released?

On Thanksgiving Day, the Detroit Lions played reasonably well for the majority of the game but when all was said and done, the Chicago Bears walked away with a 23-16 win. With the loss, the Lions are now 4-7 and their chances of making the playoffs (which were slim) took a big hit.

Though there has been no official announcement, reports are that the Lions have been awarded former Bears cornerback Marcus Cooper off waivers. Cooper, who was originally selected by the Kansas City Chiefs in the seventh round of the 2013 NFL Draft, had his best season in the league in 2016 with the Arizona Cardinals. During that season, Cooper was named as a Pro Bowl alternate after intercepting four passes and defending 11 others in 15 games (13 starts).

Since the move will be deferred until Friday, the Lions have not yet revealed who will be released to make room for Cooper.

Ironically (or maybe not so ironically), 2017 second round pick Teez Tabor was listed as inactive for Thursday’s game against the Bears, despite being healthy.

Ever since the moment Tabor was announced as the Lions draft pick, I (along with many others) have been shaking my head, baffled at Bob Quinn’s decision. Now, over a year and a half later, has Quinn finally seen what many Lions fans already knew heading into the 2017 Draft?

We could know the answer to that question as early as Friday.

TRADE RUMOR: Could Detroit Red Wings G Jimmy Howard be headed to Canada?

As it stands, the Calgary Flames are 12-8-1 which is currently good enough for the No. 4 seed in the NHL’s Western Conference.

But they have a problem with goaltending.

In 13 starts this season, Flames goaltender, Mike Smith has struggled to get the job done, as he has allowed 3.44 goals per game and has an abysmal save percentage of .876.

According to NHL insider Elliotte Friedman, the Flames could soon be looking to trade for a goaltender and Detroit Red Wings netminder Jimmy Howard could be high on their list.
