The NFL offseason is officially upon us and the local Detroit Lions beat writers are starting to catch up to the rest of the internet in terms of 2022 NFL Mock Drafts.
On Thursday, Justin Rogers of The Detroit News released his 2022 NFL Mock Draft 1.0 and he has the Lions selecting EDGE Aidan Hutchinson out of Michigan with the No. 2 overall pick and WR David Bell out of Purdue with the No. 32 overall pick (Via Rams).
Here is what Rogers has to say about each pick.
32. Detroit Lions — David Bell, WR, Purdue: In this projection, the Lions miss out on the potential No. 1 receivers, but Bell has the makings of a solid No. 2 option in the pass game, providing good size and a well-rounded skill set. Highly productive during his collegiate career, he averaged eight catches per game his three seasons with the Boilermakers, racking up nearly 3,000 receiving yards to go with 22 total touchdowns. He lacks elite speed, but exhibits good body control, strong hands and the ability to make tacklers miss.
2. Detroit Lions — Aidan Hutchinson, Edge, Michigan: Hutchinson rocketed himself into the conversation as the best player in this class with a stellar senior season. Racking up 14 sacks, his true impact as a pass-rusher is demonstrated by his 73 total pressures and impressive 25.4% win rate, according to Pro Football Focus. The high-motor defender is also an above-average run-stopper and will provide an immediate boost to Detroit’s defensive front.
Nation, would you be happy with these first two picks for the Lions?
