Bob Quinn and the Detroit Lions had a golden opportunity and like we have seen so many times before with this organization, they fumbled it away.
You see, it had nothing to do with the Lions being ‘buyers’ or ‘sellers’ at the NFL trade deadline like so many so-called ‘experts’ kept telling us, it had to do with them doing something.

But instead, Quinn and the Lions decided to just stand pat, which was the worst-case scenario for a team that just seems to be in limbo at 3-3-1 through seven games.
There were impact players available that the Lions could have had for the right price. Players who could have put the Lions into the ‘contenders’ category rather than remaining ‘pretenders’ in the NFC North. But, Quinn decided that giving up draft capital to improve his current roster was not the way to go.
Or, if Quinn feels the Lions’ current roster is still a year or two away from contending, he could have traded a player like Darius Slay to the highest bidder. After all, there is no way the Lions will give Slay a contract extension and there is a chance he ends up holding out to start the 2020 season if he does not get said extension. It is just a matter of time before Slay is traded and his value will never be as high as it was leading up to the deadline.
As Lions fans, we have seen this show before and we will probably see it again.
Bob Quinn and the Detroit Lions fumbled away an opportunity to either get better in the short term or to get better in the long term and for that, they should be embarrassed.
