The Detroit Lions decided to delay today’s practice without explanation earlier today, and now we know the reason why.
The team canceled practice in the wake of the shooting of Jacob Blake by police in Wisconsin, sparking another wave of protests and demonstrations.
After several hours’ delay, the team later announced they wouldn’t be practicing, saying football wasn’t important today.
“I didn’t really feel right about going into practice and running some football drill without talking to my team,” head coach Matt Patricia said.
The team also produced a whiteboard with the words “The world can’t go on,” written on on side. “We won’t be silent,” was written on the other.
