All professional football players have talent. After all, they have made it all the way to the top in the sport they love.
But in order to get to the NFL, there also has to be great motivation. Sometimes that motivation comes from within and other times it comes from somebody telling you that reaching your dream I s impossible.
Dave Birkett of the Detroit Free Press recently asked some Detroit Lions players what is the biggest slight in their life that they used as motivation to get to the NFL.
When asked what the biggest slight he faced was, CB Mike Ford was quick to call out his fifth-grade teacher.
From Detroit Free Press:
“I would say my fifth-grade teacher. He told me — which is part of the reason I’ve wanted to play in the NFL since then — he told me in class, in front of like everybody when I mentioned what I wanted to be, that I’d never make it to the NFL, it’s a 1% chance. The chances of me going are impossible, so I would say, yeah, that’s one of those things. … He was Mr. Nelson. He was our fifth-grade social studies and science teacher. And we were like in class and he just kind of, we had like a thing where everybody tells what they want to be when they grow up and all that stuff, and I just stood up and it was my turn, and I was like, ‘I’m going to go to the NFL,’ and all this, and he kind of tried to crap on me. And I told him in front of all the class, I was like, ‘I’m going to make it to the NFL, watch.’ ”
