Detroit Lions’ CB Teez Tabor not buying local media’s hype about ‘fast start’

Ever since the moment Teez Tabor was selected by the Detroit Lions in the 2nd round of the 2017 NFL Draft, the pressure has been on.

Through his first two seasons, Tabor has failed to live up to that pressure and heading into the current offseason, questions arose as to whether or not he would even make the team.

Well, according to the local beat writers, Tabor has been the greatest thing since sliced bread so far in OTAs and the Lions’ mandatory minicamp. (Ok, maybe that is a bit of a stretch but there has been a ton of praise)

As these reports/observations have surfaced, I have take them with a grain of salt because at my age, I have seen this story before.

It’s great that Tabor has been playing well but playing well against bottom end of the roster receivers without pads and contact is much different than defending legit NFL receivers in a game.

On Wednesday, Tabor commented on his reported ‘fast start’ this offseason and he is not buying it.

From 97.1 The Ticket:

“I ain’t doing too good right now,” he said Wednesday after the second practice of minicamp — which, to be fair, wasn’t his best. “There’s a lot of things that I need to work on still.”

“I just need to improve every day on my fundamentals and technique. They get lax sometimes, and that’s unacceptable,” Tabor said.

“I really just want to stay low, because I haven’t done anything yet,” he said. “I really don’t have no business talking about anything right now. I really don’t know nothing. I haven’t made no plays, so I don’t need to be talking.”

Tabor is certainly saying the right things and I am certainly rooting for him to take the step he needs to make the Lions roster and help out the defense in 2019.
