There is no question about it that the 2021 Detroit Lions were not a very good football team as they finished with a 3-13-1 record, which was the second-worst record in the entire NFL.
But for those that actually watched the game and did not just focus on box scores, you realize the Lions were not as bad as their record says they were.
Most believe the Lions will be one of the most-improved teams in the NFL in 2022 and the latest NFL FPI Rankings from ESPN seem to agree with that notion.

As you can see below, the Lions come in at No. 23 on the list with an FPI rating of -4.3. The Buffalo Bills lead the way at +9.4, while the Chicago Bears bring up the rear with a rating of -13.2.
Nation, where would you rank the Lions?

The rating itself indicates approximately how much better or worse — in points — that team is predicted to be, relative to an average NFL team on a neutral field.
