The Detroit Lions managed to find a way to dig deeper than rock bottom this afternoon against the Philadelphia Eagles, getting absolutely dominated by a 44-6 final score and falling to 0-8 in 2021.
Absolutely nothing went right, and the fans who attended the game at Ford Field (just under 48,000) let the Lions know exactly what they were thinking with loud and repetitive choruses of booing.
And for head coach Dan Campbell, from whom we’ve seen everything from bravado to tears, he simply stated the obvious in his postgame press conference.
“I got outreached, man,” he explained.
“We weren’t ready,” he continued. “It happened again, and so I felt like we got out coached and outplayed across the board. It starts with me. You don’t play that bad … unless that comes from the top, so that’s on me. I didn’t set the tone or tempo, obviously. Because that was bad, we didn’t even give ourselves a chance.”
Campbell is off to the worst start by a new Lions coach in two decades, and is quickly approaching former coach Marty Mornhinweg’s franchise record of 12 straight defeats.
However, Campbell did find a silver lining.
“The good news is that we’re in a bye, and I have about a week now where I can really dive into this and take it for what it is. I can sit back and look at all of it,” Campbell said.
