UPDATE:
Just moments ago, the Senior Bowl announced that the Detroit Lions, along with the New York Jets, will be the two coaching staffs coaching in this season's game.
From Senior Bowl:
The Reese’s Senior Bowl today announced that NFL Football Operations has assigned the Detroit Lions and New York Jets as the coaching staffs for the 73rd annual Reese’s Senior Bowl to be played on Saturday February 5, 2022, at Hancock Whitney Stadium on the campus of the University of South Alabama. FROM EARLIER:
As we now know, the Detroit Lions finished the 2021 season with a 3-13-1 record, which was good enough (or bad enough) for the second-worst record in the NFL.
Because of their second-last-place finish, the Lions' coaching staff will likely be selected to coach in the 2022 Reese's Senior Bowl.
Just moments ago, Jim Nagy, who is the Executive Director Reese's Senior Bowl, tweeted out that he had calls with two NFL GMs on Monday “that are fired up” about coaching in this year's Senior Bowl. Nagy added that the official announcement will come later today.
Stay tuned but expect for the Lions coaching staff to land a new gig in a matter of hours.
