Detroit Lions could make huge personnel decision public on Tuesday

If you have been waiting patiently to find out what the Detroit Lions will do with wide receiver Kenny Golladay moving forward, your wait could potentially come to an end on Tuesday (at the earliest).

That decision (which the Lions have likely already made in-house) is whether or not the Lions will use the franchise tag on Golladay, who is set to become an unrestricted free agent if they choose not to. Teams are able to apply their franchise between Feb. 23 and March 9 and they can only apply the tag to one player per season.

According to a report from Ian Rapoport of the NFL Network, the Lions are expected to use the tag on Golladay, which would theoretically keep him around for at least the 2021 season…unless they work out a tag-and-trade deal. Note: If the Lions were to use the franchise tag on Golladay for a second year in a row in 2022, he would automatically receive a 20% raise.

As we approach the free agency period (begins on March 17), the Lions’ wide receiver room is something that could look very different than a year ago as Golladay, Marvin Jones Jr., and Danny Amendola are all set to become free agents when the new league year begins.

Personally, a tag-and-trade is the way to go in this situation as the Lions may be able to land a third-round pick or so for a position (wide receiver) that I am not a fan of overpaying for.

Nation, what do you think the Lions should do? What do you think they will do?
