Despite some hopeful expectations from many, it was a rough season for the Detroit Lions. Not only did they miss the NFL Playoffs for a second-straight season, but they only won six games along the way.

It was also a bit of a down season for Lions’ cornerback Darius Slay, who was dealing with injuries throughout the season. Despite not dominating quite as he did in 2017, Slay showed plenty of flashes as to why he is one of the best cornerbacks in the NFL. Because of his efforts, Slay was selected to play in the Pro Bowl for the second-straight season.
On Wednesday, Slay released his thoughts on the 2018 season, whether or not he thinks Matt Patricia was the right hire, and his plans moving forward.

The 2018 season was not what the team and myself were expecting, but we see the positives and are taking away the high notes of our season to go into 2019. It was our first year with Coach Patricia and we had to adjust to his coaching style, but they definitely hired the right guy to take us above and beyond. We had some great wins this year, as we took down New England, Green Bay twice, and Carolina. We know how we can build on those type of wins to have more of them next season.
Personally, it was a roller coaster year. I dealt with some injuries throughout the season but when I was out there, Lions fans know I was giving everything I got. I had my first career pick-six, that’s something I won’t forget. I was blessed to be named a Pro-Bowler a second straight year and I am beyond grateful to be given that honor. There are so many elite cornerbacks in this league, especially the NFC, so to be able to represent the Lions in the Pro Bowl again is something I will not take for granted.
I’m already thinking about next year man, this team rallied and fought all year only makes me excited for the 2019 year. We have a lot of talent on this team and Coach is steering us in the right direction. This offseason I will focus on taking care of my body and making sure I’m better than ever. A third straight Pro Bowl would be a blessing, but taking Detroit to the playoffs takes priority. I know we have the talent to get it done. #OnePride
