The Detroit Lions received the third-to-last pick in the 2021 NFL Draft in their trade earlier this afternoon with the Cleveland Browns, and they used it to select RB Jermar Jefferson.
He comes to Detroit after having racked up 858 yards in only six games last season with Oregon State. His overall numbers in three years include 2,923 yards and 27 touchdowns.
In his first virtual meeting with Detroit media members, he admitted to being a bit surprised that he wasn’t selected earlier in the Draft, but that he’s used to being in that position.
“I’ve been in this position before,” he said. “All my life I’ve been underrated. Just know the Detroit Lions are getting everything out of me.
He’ll be joining a Lions backfield that already includes the likes of D’Andre Swift, Jamaal Williams and Kerryon Johnson, where he feels he can put his skills to good use.
“I feel like I’m more of a balanced back,” Jefferson said. “I can catch the ball out of the backfield. I feel like I can do it all.”
What are his goals in the Motor City? He’s got one – and fans are going to like it.
“I’m gonna shock the world. Just know that the Detroit Lions are getting everything out of me… everything.”
