Detroit Lions’ Game-Winning TD Wiped Out by Late Penalty in Brutal Loss

For a brief, chaotic moment on Sunday afternoon, Ford Field thought it had just witnessed a miracle.

Instead, it got a flag, and with it, the most crushing ending of the Detroit Lions‘ season.

Detroit’s heartbreaking 29–24 loss to the Pittsburgh Steelers didn’t just hurt because of the final score. It hurt because the Lions appeared to score a game-winning touchdown as time expired, only to see it wiped off the board by a penalty that ended the game and nearly ended their playoff hopes.

One Last Chance — and Then Chaos

Despite everything, the Steelers nearly handed Detroit a lifeline.

With just over two minutes left, Pittsburgh kicker Chris Boswell missed a 37-yard field goal, giving the Lions the ball down five points with 2:05 remaining.

Detroit responded.

The Lions marched down the field and reached the 1-yard line after a clutch completion to rookie wideout Isaac TeSlaa. Then everything unraveled.

Multiple penalties pushed Detroit backward, turning a golden opportunity into first-and-goal from the 16-yard line.

On fourth-and-goal from the 9, with the season on the line, the Lions dialed up desperation.

Amon-Ra St. Brown caught the pass near the goal line and lateraled the ball to Jared Goff, who leapt into the end zone as the clock hit zero.
