The Detroit Lions have made a new hire today, bringing aboard former Houston Texans offensive coordinator George Godsey as defensive assistant-special projects.

Godsey, 38, formerly served as the Texans’ offensive coordinator in 2015 and 2016, and also coached Houston’s quarterbacks in 2014. He also previously served as an assistant coach with the New England Patriots, where he worked with current Lions’ GM Bob Quinn.
He attended Georgia Tech and played quarterback, setting the school record for career completion percentage (63.3). He also played in the Arena Football League for the Tampa Bay Storm for one season. Godsey then began his coaching career coaching high school football in Georgia, later moving on to the University of Central Florida and coaching the quarterbacks and running backs.
