Detroit Lions hire J.T. Barrett, announce 6 other coaching moves

The offseason is upon us, and the Detroit Lions though we will have to wait a little bit longer for them to start adding and subtracting players, they have already started to make some moves when it comes to the coaching staff. On Wednesday, it was announced that they have made multiple coaching moves, including hiring former Ohio State standout J.T. Barrett as one of their new assistant quarterbacks coach. Here are the coaching moves that were announced just moments ago.

Detroit Lions announce multiple coaching moves

On Wednesday, Detroit announced the following seven coaching moves. Some of the moves are in-house adjustments and some are new hires.

SCOTTIE MONTGOMERY – ASSISTANT HEAD COACH / RUNNING BACKS

Entering his sixth season as an NFL coach, Montgomery has most recently served as the running backs coach for the Indianapolis Colts for the past two seasons (2021-2022). In 2021, he successfully led the Colts’ rushing attack, which was ranked second in the NFL in terms of rushing yards with 2,540.

Montgomery’s initial coaching role in the NFL was with the Pittsburgh Steelers, where he served as the wide receivers coach from 2010 to 2012. During this time, he made a significant contribution to the team’s success, leading them to two playoff appearances in the span of three years.

DRE THOMPSON – WCF MINORITY COACHING ASSISTANT / DEFENSIVE QUALITY CONTROL

Entering his second year as an NFL coach, Thompson recently completed his first season with the Denver Broncos, where he held the position of Billy Thompson Coaching Fellow. Before joining the Broncos, he worked as the cornerbacks coach at the University at Buffalo in 2021.

Thompson’s first full-time coaching experience was with Campbell University, where he served as the assistant defensive backs coach in 2019 before being promoted to the cornerbacks coach in 2020.
