Raise your hand if you knew who Akil Baddoo was prior to his breakout season with the Detroit Tigers.
Ok, I see that those of you who are his family and friends have your hands up, good.
But what about the rest of you? Nobody? That’s what I thought as I also had no clue who Baddoo was prior to him bursting onto the scene with the Tigers in 2021.
Folks, the Tigers found what looks to be a solid contributor in Baddoo and I am here to tell you that the Detroit Lions just did the same thing.
Let’s try this again.
Folks, raise your hand if you had ever heard of Trinity Benson before Tuesday.
Ok, a few more of you have your hands up but not very many.
On Tuesday, news broke that the Lions had traded the Denver Broncos for WR Trinity Benson and, not surprisingly, Lions beat writers, bloggers, and fans scrambled to answer the question, “who in the heck is Trinity Benson?”
After going undrafted in 2019, Benson, who attended college at East Central (have you heard of it?), has since spent his two years in the NFL on the Broncos practice squad.
But make no mistake about it, Benson has talent and the Lions are in need of help at the WR position, especially when it comes to a vertical threat in the passing game. In fact, I would not be surprised if he becomes the Lions No. 3 WR by the time the season ends, he has that much talent.
Now, one difference between Baddoo and Benson is that the Tigers did not have to give up anything for Baddoo, while the Lions had to give up what will end up amounting to compensatory picks in the 2022 NFL Draft.
Lions’ fans, keep a close eye on Trinity Benson because he is soon going to get you very excited!
He’ll probably be featured more on punt and kick return for the LIONS early games.
