On Sunday, the Detroit Lions will be in the Mile High City to take on the Denver Broncos.
It will also be a homecoming of sorts for Lions kicker Matt Prater, who played in 94 games for the Broncos before he was released in 2014 after he served a suspension for violating the NFL’s substance-abuse policy.

On Dec. 8, 2013, Prater set a new NFL record by connecting on a 64-yard field goal at the end of the first half against the Tennessee Titans.
Now, Prater says he wants a shot to break his own record.
“That was six years ago now,” he said. “It was cold that day, too. It was like 10 or 12, I think. I can’t remember the exact (temperature), but I know it was cold.”
It was actually 13 degrees with a 3 mph on that December day while the forecast for this Sunday is 60 degrees, which means much better kicking conditions.
“There’s a lot of guys that could do it, it’s just getting the opportunity,” he said. “It’s got to be right before the end of the half or right at the end of the game just ’cause field position’s so important. So many games are close, it’s just getting that opportunity.”
It has been a rough season for the Lions but it would be fun to see Prater get a shot at the record.
