Detroit Lions LB Jamie Collins not satisfied with NFL’s opt-out deadline

Well, it is now past 4:00 p.m. ET, which means the NFL's opt-out deadline has officially passed and at of the time of publishing, there were 64 players who have decided to opt-out of the 2020 season due to concerns about COVID-19. Just prior to the deadline, Detroit Lions linebacker Jamie Collins spoke to the media and said he wishes he and other players had more time to decide.

“If we had more time it would've been more comfortable. We would've had time to think things through,” Collins said. “It is what it is. We have to deal with it.”

2020 NFL Opt-Out Tracker: 3 Detroit Lions opt-out of upcoming season

The NFL opt-out date is set for 4 p.m. ET on Thursday and at that point, we will have a pretty good idea as to which (and how many) players will have decided to sit out the 2020 season due to concerns regarding COVID-19.

As of this morning, 60 players have already made the decision to opt-out of the 2020 season and I anticipate that list will grow before the deadline hits later this afternoon.

In regards to our Detroit Lions, DT John Atkins, WR Geronimo Allison, and most recently, C Russell Boone, have already notified the league of their decision to opt-out.

Here is the full list of the players (Now up to 65) (Via Sharp Football Analysis) who have opted out as of 4:20 p.m. ET on 8/6/20.

Detroit Tigers release pitching rotation for upcoming series vs. Pirates

On Friday, the Detroit Tigers, who have been off since dropping both games of a doubleheader on Sunday against the Cincinnati Reds, will be in Pittsburgh to begin a 3-game set against the Pirates.

For those of us who are patiently awaiting the Major League debut of the Tigers top pitching prospect, Casey Mize, we will have to wait a bit longer as the pitching rotation for this weekend has been released and Mize’s name is nowhere to be found.

Instead, the Tigers will go with Opening Day starter Matthew Boyd on Friday, Ivan Nova on Saturday, and my preseason pick to be the Tigers best pitcher in 2020, Spencer Turnbull for the series finale on Sunday.

The Tigers currently sit at 5-5, which puts them fourth in the American League Central, 4.0 games behind the red-hot Minnesota Twins, who are off to a 10-2 start.
