On Sunday, The Detroit Lions went into Miami and defeated the Dolphins by a score of 32-21. With the win, the Lions moved to 3-3 on the season and they are now in striking distance in the NFC North.
The question that seems to be on the mind every Detroit Lions fan is, does this team have what it takes to win the NFC North and earn a playoff spot?
Offensively, the Lions seem to have gotten things together as they proved on Sunday when they rushed for nearly 250 yards as a team. Matthew Stafford is proving exactly what he can do when he has a solid running game behind him.
But the defense is another story. Though they played reasonably well against the Dolphins, there is no question about it that they are still a bottom half defense in the NFL.
One reason for that is because they only have one good cornerback and that’s Darius Slay. I’ve heard some fans say that the Lions secondary is legit, but I disagree wholeheartedly.
If the Lions are truly going to compete for an NFC North crown, they absolutely must improve their defense, and they had better do it soon.
On Monday, it was reported that Arizona Cardinals cornerback Patrick Peterson wants out of the desert and he is hoping to be traded before the Oct. 30 NFL trade deadline.
Cardinals’ All Pro CB Patrick Peterson has asked Arizona to deal him by the Oct. 30 trade deadline, per league sources. Peterson feels as if the situation is deteriorating and continues to reaffirm to others that he “desperately” wants out, per source.

As soon as I saw that tweet, I immediately thought, the Detroit Lions absolutely must do whatever they can to trade for him.
A little while after Schefter’s tweet, another tweet surfaced from Mike Clay which reiterated my thought exactly.
Peterson is only 28 years old and figures to have a few good years left. Figures to have a lot of suitors. Contenders like Chiefs, Eagles, Saints, Panthers, Lions, Steelers could all use him https://t.co/bsRMFfGGi5

Petersen is only 28 years old, and he certainly has enough gas left in the tank for a few more quality years. Teaming him up with Darius Slay would give the Lions a 1-2 punch in the secondary that any team would have to respect.
Would this trade absolutely guarantee that the Lions win the NFC North? Of course not. But that being said, it sure as hell would give them a much better chance.
