Inside the Article:
Earlier this week, we passed along a report that Detroit Lions offensive coordinator Ben Johnson has notified NFL teams that he is taking his hat out of the ring when it comes to potential head coaching jobs. This is obviously amazing news for the Lions as Johnson is already one of the best offensive coordinators in the NFL. But, according to reports, the Lions will not go completely unscathed this offseason as the Arizona Cardinals have poached one of their long-time staff members.

Why it matters?
According to a report from Ian Rapoport, the Cardinals are hiring Lions director of college scouring Dave Sears as their new assistant general manager under new GM Monti Ossenfort.
- Sears beat out Adrian Wilson and Quentin Harris for the job
- Sears had been with the Lions since 2007
- Lions' GM Brad Holmes will now have to find a new director of college scouting
Who will be the new Detroit Lions director of college scouting?
With Dave Sears reportedly heading to Arizona, Brad Holmes will have to find/promote his replacement.
As it stands, Brian Hudspetch is currently the Lions' assistant director of college scouting, and we have to believe that he has the inside track to replace Sears.
Bottom Line
Losing Sears is a big loss for the Lions as Holmes has mentioned on multiple occasions how important he is to the team.
- The Cardinals have poached Lions director of college scouting, Dave Sears
- Sears was an important member of the Lions' scouting department
- Brad Holmes will have to hire/promote a new director of college scouting
- Look for Holmes to promote Brian Hudspeth to the new director of college scouting
