Detroit Lions lose multiple 1st Round draft picks to injury vs. Buffalo Bills

On Thursday, Carolina Panthers quarterback Cam Newton was forced to leave a preseason game with what may or may not be a significant ankle injury.

Newton's injury only increased discussion around the league (especially on social media) about whether or not it is worth it to play starters in the preseason.

One day later, the Detroit Lions decided to play starting quarterback Matthew Stafford for the first time in a preseason game this year.

Stafford completed 12 of 19 passes for 137 yards and came out of the game unscathed but the same cannot be said for staring LB Jarrod Davis or starting center, Frank Ragnow.

Davis, who was selected by the Lions in the 1st Round of the 2017 NFL Draft, was carted off the field in the first quarter with what looked to be a serious leg injury.
