The Detroit Lions are no longer be alone in their pursuit of Mike McDaniel.
According to a report from Jordan Schultz, the Tennessee Titans are planning to interview the former Miami Dolphins head coach for their vacant head coaching position. That development adds real competition for the Lions, who have been widely linked to McDaniel as they continue evaluating options to reshape their offensive leadership.

McDaniel’s appeal is obvious. During his time in Miami, he built one of the league’s most creative offenses, maximized speed and spacing, and developed a reputation as a sharp, detail-oriented football mind. Even with his departure from the Dolphins, league circles continue to view him as a coach with long-term upside, either as a head coach again or as a high-impact offensive architect.
For Detroit, the timing matters. The Lions have made it clear they are “looking at everything” as they assess how to get their offense back to a championship level. McDaniel’s name has naturally surfaced given his schematic creativity and ability to tailor an offense around elite talent, something that fits Detroit’s current roster makeup.
Now, with Tennessee entering the picture, the Lions may need to move decisively if McDaniel is truly near the top of their wish list. Whether this turns into a bidding war for interviews or simply added leverage for McDaniel remains to be seen, but one thing is clear: Detroit is no longer the only team in the mix.
The coaching carousel is officially spinning faster, and the Lions have company.
