Detroit Lions named as potential trade destination for Pro Bowl RB

If you have been following along with the NFL offseason, you have likely heard that San Diego Chargers Pro Bowl running back Melvin Gordon wants to get paid and he is willing to sit out to make that happen.

Because of Gordon’s demands, there has been speculation that he end up being traded by the Chargers.

In a recent article published by SB Nation’s Bolts from the Blue, the Detroit Lions are listed as a potential trade destination for Gordon.

The proposed trade (which seems like too little too me) includes the Lions giving up RT Rick Wagner and a 6th round pick for the services of Gordon.

From Bolts from the Blue:

The Lions get an upgrade at running back with Melvin Gordon over Kerryon Johnson. The team can now slide Tyrell Crosby, who they drafted in 2018, to right tackle who the team sees as having some real potential. The Lions offense has more firepower by adding Gordon and Wagner’s deal is off the books giving them room to add Melvin Gordon’s new contract which will bring in somewhere between $13-14M annually over the next 4-5 years. The tandem of Gordon-Johnson is a good potential 1-2 punch in the Detroit backfield. The Lions also throw in a late Day 3 pick to sweeten the deal.

Nation, would you like to see Lions’ GM Bob Quinn pull of this trade? If so, do you think Wagner and a 6th round pick would be enough to get the job done?

My personal opinion is that you NEVER pay up for a running back. That, coupled with my belief that Kerryon Johnson is the real deal, makes this a no go.
