Detroit Lions NFL Playoffs Rooting Guide: Wild Card Weekend

It was not meant to be. After starting the season with a 1-6 record, there were some people who were actually ready to move on from Detroit Lions GM Brad Holmes and head coach, Dan Campbell. Granted, those are probably the same people who said Jared Goff would not make it to 2023 as the Lions quarterback. Well, the Lions proceeded to go 8-2 in their final 10 games to finish with a winning record in 2022. Unfortunately, the Lions finished one game short of earning a berth in the NFL Playoffs. That being said, most of you will probably be watching the NFL Playoffs so we figured we would help you out in terms of which teams to root for.

Which teams should Detroit Lions fans root for during Wild Card Weekend?

SATURDAY’S GAMES

Los Angeles Chargers at Jacksonville Jaguars – 8:15 p.m. ET ESPN

I am not going to lie. I personally don’t care TOO much about this game except for one thing. Former Lions WR Marvin Jones Jr.!!!! Marvin is an outstanding person and one of my all-time favorite Lions so I will be rooting for him to advance.

Seattle Seahawks at San Francisco 49ers – 4:30 p.m. ET FOX

On one hand, I would like to see former Lions S Quandre Diggs make a run at a Super Bowl. On the other hand, SCREW THE SEAHAWKS for beating the Rams to knock the Lions out of playoff contention. Root for the 49ers!!!

SUNDAY’S GAMES

Miami Dolphins at Buffalo Bills – 1:00 p.m. ET CBS

Uh… There is no way I am not rooting for the Bills in this game after what happened to Damar Hamlin. Damar has been doing well, and I would LOVE to see him attend a Super Bowl featuring the Bills. Root for Buffalo!

Baltimore Ravens at Cincinnati Bengals – 8:15 p.m. ET NBC

This is a tough one for me because I could not care less for either one of these teams. Some people love them some Joe Burrow but I am not one of those people. Don’t get me wrong, I don’t have a problem with Burrow but I am rooting for the underdog in this one. GO RAVENS!

New York Giants at Minnesota Vikings – 4:30 p.m. ET FOX

I bet you think I will say to root for the Giants because the Vikings are a division rival of the Lions. YOU ARE WRONG!!! The further the Vikings advance, the lower their 2023 NFL Draft pick will be. I don’t want them to win the Super Bowl or anything crazy like that, but I will be rooting for them to win a couple of games in the NFL Playoffs just so that they have a lower draft pick.

MONDAY’S GAME

Dallas Cowboys at Tampa Bay Buccaneers – 8:15 p.m. ET ABC/ESPN

As you probably know, I am a HUGE University of Michigan fan and a HUGE Tom Brady fan. That being said, even if you hate the Wolverines and Brady, HOW IN THE WORLD COULD YOU EVER ROOT FOR THE COWBOYS?!?! Root for the Bucs in this one!

Detroit Lions fans, which teams will you be rooting for this weekend?
