Ever since her husband passed away in 2014 and Martha Ford took over as owner of the Detroit Lions, she has avoided the media like the plague.

But in an NFL Films special which will air on ESPN, Ford, who is 93, says her best memory has yet to take place.
“My best memory hasn’t come yet. I want to get the Lombardi Trophy” Ford says on the special.
Though the Lions do have four NFL Championships (1935, 1952, 1953, 1957), they have never even appeared in a Super Bowl, much less win one.
Though Martha now owns the Lions, that would not have been the case had her husband William Clay Ford listened to her many years ago.
“My husband said, ‘I’m thinking about buying the Lions. What do you think?’ And I said, ‘How much is it going to cost.’ And he said, ‘I think about 4 million dollars.’ And I said, ‘Oh, no, that’s way too much. It was not nearly as good as George Halas who got his team for 100 dollars.’”
The special, which also features Chicago Bears’ owner Virginia McCaskey, Kansas City Chiefs’ owner Norma Hunt, and Pittsburgh Steelers’ owner Patricia Rooney, is titled “A Lifetime of Sundays,” and will air on ESPN on Aug. 25 at 1 p.m. EST.
