The Detroit Lions may be 8-5 and technically outside the NFC playoff picture heading into Sunday, but here’s the good news: that could change today. Yes, seriously. Dan Campbell’s squad could climb right back into the postseason field before the sun goes down, and the path is surprisingly straightforward.

Here’s the magic formula:
Step 1: The Chicago Bears (9-4) lose at home to the Cleveland Browns (3-10).
That’s the big one. The Bears are the team Detroit is most likely to catch in the wildcard race, which means Lions fans should be temporary Browns fans for a few hours. Chicago slipping up opens the door.
Step 2: The Lions beat Matthew Stafford and the Los Angeles Rams (10-3).
This is no small task. The Rams are one of the NFC’s best teams, but the Lions have already beaten L.A. twice since Stafford was traded. A win at SoFi Stadium would push Detroit to 9-5 and move them into the No. 7 seed in the NFC.
That’s it. Two games. One upset, one Detroit win, and suddenly the Lions are back in the dance.
The Bears remain the clearest team for Detroit to target in the standings, so every Chicago loss matters. Today could be the swing point in the entire playoff race, and if things fall Detroit’s way, the Lions will go to bed holding a postseason spot once again.
Buckle up. It could be a very fun day in the NFC playoff picture.
