Detroit Lions QB David Blough talks about his “frustrating” performance

Detroit Lions quarterback David Blough has been thrust into the starting role with injuries to both Matthew Stafford and Jeff Driskel. And while he played admirably in his first game as a starter on Thanksgiving, things haven’t gone as well since then.

During today’s loss to the Tampa Bay Bucs at Ford Field, Blough completed 24 of 43 passes for 260 yards – but it was a back-breaking interception late in the game that was returned for six points and sealed Detroit’s fate.

“Obviously it’s a play that will come back to you when you look back,” he lamented about his intercepted pass. “We’ll look at it again but it was kind of the dagger in the game.”

Blough completed a mere 1 of 4 passes for two yards in the first quarter, but settled in after halftime. He threw long passes to Danny Amendola and Kenny Golladay, helping set up two touchdowns by Wes Hills to get Detroit back within striking distance.

But it was his picked off pass by Sean Murphy-Bunting with just over five minutes remaining that cancelled out any thoughts of a comeback.

“You can’t do that,” he continued. “Playing quarterback in this league, you have to value the football first and foremost and its just frustrating that it happened there after the guys fought so hard to battle back…it’s frustrating.”

“We’ll be alright. We’ll keep fighting.”
