It’s been an offseason of transition for the Detroit Lions, as they have several new faces both on the field and on the sidelines. And two of the major changes that Detroit made were at the quarterback position as well as offensive coordinator.
Both Jared Goff and Anthony Lynn got acclimated to their new surroundings in the Motor City as Lions training camp got underway last month, along with the exhibition schedule.
Of course, Goff saw hardly any action during Detroit’s exhibition schedule. But according to the man himself, that’s no issue.
“That was the approach taken in LA, it’s worked,” Goff said. “We’ve supplemented well in practice, gotten the work we need in. We all trust Dan and his plan, and we’re ready to go.”
So what can fans expect to see from the new-look offense this season?
“We’ve done some stuff that we’ll do in the season, and stuff that we won’t do. We’ve done a lot of stuff from Day 1 in house, I’m sure that’s standard around the League and it’s the approach we’re taking.
“I think we’re doing a great job. We’re taking steps in the right direction every day. As this thing has wound down, the coaches have figured out the roster and how we’ll be moving the ball around. We’re settling in.”
There are several new faces in the Motor City this season, along with Campbell, Lynn and defensive coordinator Aaron Glenn. How is it all coming together?
“We’ve done a good job of pulling people’s strengths and using guys’ strengths to put them in spots to be effective,” Goff explained. “That’s the No. 1 thing of constantly looking at who we want to get the ball to, and how we implement that into place. Up to this point, they’ve done a tremendous job.”
Those of us in the Motor City know that the Lions aren’t exactly projected to make much noise in the NFC North in 2021, much less against the rest of the League. Can the Lions surprise people this season?
“I don’t really know what surprising would look like, but we feel good,” Goff said. “Internally, our expectations are to win games and win the division. Win the division and go from there. Externally, I couldn’t care less and don’t know what it would be.”
“Every day is a new day, and we’re trying to win.”
