The Detroit Lions lost a heartbreaker to the Minnesota Vikings on Sunday, dropping to 0-5 thanks to a last second field goal by the host Vikings. And the emotion of the loss was evident from head coach Dan Campbell during his post-game presser, wiping away tears.
Lions QB Jared Goff shared his thoughts on his head coach during an appearance on “The Karsch and Anderson Show” on 97.1 The Ticket earlier today, and he reinforced the fact that Campbell is known as a passionate and genuine person.
“Like you said, it's the people in that locker room that matter,” Goff said. “When he's that passionate – and we knew that, it's nothing new to us of how much he cares and how passionate he is. But when you can see it on his face and see the way he feels for us, he said it in his post game that we're putting in the time, work and effort.
Unfortunately, we haven't reaped the benefits, but you just keep chopping wood. That's how he's built, that's how we're all built, and it's the only way to go forward.”
Goff explained that it's a positive culture that the new team coaching staff is trying to instill, and the players notice is.
“He cares so much, he's a genuine guy,” Goff said. “We feel that from him every day in the building. He's been the engird guy every day, and the positive guy. We feel it from him – he's a special kind of dude. The culture he's building here is something that will hopefully be special for a long time.”
Of course, the Lions were nearly able to steal Sunday's game when they scored late and then immediately and successfully earned two more points to take the lead. Goff said that there was no discussion – they knew they were going to attempt the two point conversion.
“We knew when we were walking on the field that we were going for two,” he said. “We didn't find out after the touchdown.”
