The 6-foot-4, 255-pound Bryant was originally drafted in the seventh round of 2013 NFL Draft by the Cleveland Browns out of East Central (Okla.) University. He began last season with a suspension for violating the NFL's policy on performance enhancing drugs. He was also previously suspended in 2015 by Cleveland due to an off-field arrest.
Bryant was claimed off waivers by Detroit last October, and he went on to finish third on the team in sacks (3.0). His season ended with a knee injury against New Orleans in Week 13.
Bryant becomes the latest Lions unrestricted free agent to re-up with the team for 2017, the first since long snapper Don Muhlbach, whose return was announced earlier this month.
