Heading into the 2019 regular season, most of the so-called experts picked the Detroit Lions to finish last in the NFC North. In fact, depending on where you looked, the betting Over/Under was between 6-7 wins for the Lions.
Yet, many Lions fans got their hopes up once again, hoping that this would finally be the year that their team rose up and shocked the world.
Well, as we know, the Lions are currently 3-9-1 and if you bet on the Under, you are sitting to make some cash.
But why are the Lions so bad?
Throughout the year, Lions head coach Matt Patricia has said time and time again that this is all part of the process.
On Wednesday, Patricia was asked if “process” was code for “rebuild.”
From Detroit Free Press:
“I don’t know. You can divide the English language however you want,” Patricia said. “I think for us, you know me, we’re just trying to get better this week. We got a lot of young players out there that are trying to get better and certainly for us, I think every season is a process.”
“Right now I’m just focused on this week,” he said Monday. “We’ll worry about next year, next year.”
“Every season you start over in the NFL,” Patricia said. “That’s something that I learned a long time ago. Each team is different from year to year. There’s always changes that are involved there and try to got to do the best job you can to build, and those guys that are kind of your core players that stay with you, you hope they improve and they can grow as leaders and kind of build off of them. That’s really what we’re trying to do.
“For us it’s just building. It’s just building upon those things that we’ve been able to do that’s been consistent and tried to eliminate those things that are inconsistent.”
