Detroit Lions received trade down offers while on the clock

On Thursday night, the Detroit Lions used the No. 7 overall pick to select OT Penei Sewell out of Oregon.

Following the pick, television networks showed the Lions draft room and it was pretty obvious that GM Brad Holmes and the others in the room were extremely excited about the pick.

Sewell was clearly the guy the Lions wanted but according to Holmes, who spoke with reporters after the pick, they did have a couple of trade offers on the table when they were on the clock.

“At our pick, the phone rang from a couple of teams, but we just felt so good about Penei, it wasn’t intriguing enough for us to risk not landing him,” Holmes said.

Holmes also addressed the rumor that the Lions were “overplaying their hand” and asking for too much to trade the No. 7 pick.

“I didn’t get a response that the asking price was too high.”

Nation, do you think the Lions should have traded the No. 7 pick or are you as excited about Sewell as Brad Holmes and his team is?
