Detroit Lions release first depth chart of 2016

The Detroit Lions media has released the unofficial depth chart for the start of the 2016 regular season, which begins for the Lions this Sunday against the Indianapolis Colts.

For the most part, all of the positions on the depth chart have the players that were slated to be in the certain slots prior to the start of training camp. The Lions are looking pretty solid on both sides of the football. If they can remain healthy throughout the season, there should be no reason why Detroit can’t make some noise in 2016.

Let’s take a look at the first depth chart of 2016 for the Lions.

The real only surprise per say would be that Ameer Abdullah is at the top of the depth chart for kick returner. I think it’s safe to say that it’s surprising to not see rookie Dwayne Washington at the top instead of Abdullah. Washington really impressed on special teams during the preseason, ultimately earning himself a 53-man roster spot in Detroit. He’ll more than likely climb the chart and see himself near the top before the season is finished, especially if he continues to make due with the chances he’s given.

Other than the special teams point, there really isn’t anything else that sticks out as surprising. As stated above, the Lions look very solid heading into Week 1 this Sunday against the Colts. Let’s hope the squad can stay healthy and keep the injury bug away so that there can be more ‘roaring’ in the Motor City, instead of ‘booing’.

Born & raised in the mitten. Grew up in Traverse City, but moved down to the Redford, MI area after my Dad tragically passed away in 1999 because that's where he was being buried and we wanted to be down there with him. I'm an avid Detroit sports fan, growing up in the state of Michigan and having such a solid block of teams to root for is something special. Iv'e always liked discussing Detroit sports whether it be about the past, the present or even what the future holds for Michigan sports teams. It's a long time coming as I am very excited to be apart of the DSN team and be able to construct interesting features to be posted for Detroit Sports fans to read/discuss about.
