Improving the defensive line is an absolute must if the Detroit Lions want to truly contend for a Super Bowl in the not too distant future. Using the franchise tag on defensive end Ezekiel Ansah certainly helped the cause but with defensive tackle Haloti Ngata moving on to the Philadelphia Eagles, a hole opened up on the interior.

On Wednesday, the Lions made a move which essentially replaces Ngata as they announced the signing of defensive tackle, Sylvester Williams. Contract terms have not yet been released.

Williams, who is 29-years-old, was originally selected 28th overall by the Denver Broncos in the 1st Round of the 2013 NFL Draft. In four seasons in the Mile High City, Williams played in 60 games (48 starts), picking up 69 tackles and 5.5 sacks before heading to the Tennessee Titans for a season. In 2017, he played in 15 games (11 starts), recording 12 tackles and zero sacks.

Like Ngata was during his time in Detroit, Williams is known more for his ability to stuff the run and does not often get to the quarterback.

As it stands, Williams will likely start next to DT A’Shawn Robinson but you can bet the Lions will select a defensive lineman in the upcoming NFL Draft.

REPORT: Detroit Lions to sign tight end Luke Willson

Some love the move and some hate the move but regardless of how you feel, Eric Ebron is no longer on the Detroit Lions roster. A week ago, news broke that the Lions had decided to part ways with the former 1st Round pick. Ebron was due $8.25 million in 2018, a price that turned out to be too high for general manager Bob Quinn’s liking.

By releasing Ebron, the Lions were left with just Michael Roberts, Hakeem Valles, and Brandon Barnes as far as tight end depth goes.

Now, according to a report from NFL Canada, the Lions have found Ebron’s replacement in former Seattle Seahawks tight end, Luke Willson.
