Throughout the week, Detroit Lions running back D’Andre Swift appeared on the injury report, but he made it clear that he planned to play on Sunday against the Dallas Cowboys. Well, according to a report from Jeremy Fowler of ESPN, Swift, who was listed as questionable (ankle/shoulder) on Friday’s final injury report, is not expected to play against the Cowboys. Heading into the 2022 NFL regular season, there were plenty of question marks regarding Swift and his durability, which is exactly why.
Duce Staley told D’Andre Swift that there is a difference between playing ‘hurt’ and playing ‘injured’

Despite saying his plan was to play on Sunday against the Dallas Cowboys, it appears as if Swift will sit out at least one more week as he continues to recover from an ankle and shoulder injury.
Back in June, Detroit Lions RBs coach Duce Staley said that he told Swift that he has to play through some of these injuries.
“Injuries happen, but one of the things Swift and I had a conversation about is you’ve got to be able to play through some of these injuries as a running back,” Staley said, via the Detroit Free Press. “We all know there’s a difference between being injured and hurt. As soon as you step in this building as a running back, Day One training camp, you’re not going to feel the same. There will be some things you have to fight through.”

At that time, Staley told reporters that Swift had a positive reaction to being told that he needs to play through certain injuries.
“Super positive and he knows we need him out there, which is good,” Staley said. “Playing running back, you’re going to take your fair share of hits. You just have to make sure you protect yourself when it’s the time to protect yourself and then there’s going to be time to put it all out there.”
