Detroit Lions’ road map to the No. 2 pick in the 2019 NFL Draft

With just one week of NFL regular season football remaining, Detroit Lions fans have been left to wondering where our team will be picking in the 2019 NFL Draft.

Well, now that Week 16 is in the books, the Week 17 draft scenarios are pretty simple.

With the Oakland Raiders defeating the Denver Broncos on Monday Night Football, the door has opened (VERY slightly) for the Lions, who currently sit at No. 5 in the draft order,  to move all the way up to the No. 2 pick. For that to happen, if these four things happen.

  1. Lions lose at Green Bay
  2. Jets win at New England
  3. Raiders win at Kansas City
  4. 49ers win at Los Angeles Rams

As you can see, the chances of the Lions landing the No. 2 pick is HIGHLY unlikely. That being said, if the Lions do lose at Green Bay and either the Jets, Raiders, or 49ers pull off an upset, Detroit would move on up.

On the other hand, if the Lions were to win in Green Bay, they could actually slide as far down as No. 9 in the draft order, as four other teams are also 5-10 at the moment.

This is certainly not what we hoped to be writing about heading into Week 17, but it is what it is.

If the Detroit Lions make this BOLD combo of moves, they will win the NFC North in 2019

The 2018 version of the Detroit Lions sucked horribly. The head coach sucked. The offense sucked. The defense sucked. Heck, even the special teams sucked at times.

So, with that established, what can be done during the offseason to turn things around on time for the kickoff of the 2019 season?

Though I have a few ideas up my sleeve that would help the team to improve greatly, the biggest idea is one that will likely blow your mind. Mostly because I am not sure if it has ever been done before.

In my opinion, there is one BOLD move the Lions can make this offseason that will, in turn, put the wheels in motion for a 2019 NFC North Title run.

Now, I get it. You are probably already shaking your head and calling me a moron for thinking the Lions have any chance in 2019.

But they do.

IF and ONLY IF they make this BOLD move. (Technically it is a trio of moves but stick with me)
