Inside the Article:
We may only be in January, but if you are a fan of the Detroit Lions, the 2023 NFL Draft has probably entered your mind already. Personally, I have an unhealthy obsession with the draft, and I have had that obsession for a long time. So, when I see a 2023 NFL Mock Draft come out, there is a 100% chance that I click on it to see who the Lions pick. Well, the mock draft I stumbled across this morning is absolute trash for a couple of reasons. First, it only includes the top 10 picks, and second, it has the Lions selecting a freaking tight end with the No. 6 overall pick.
Why it matters
When you look up and down the Lions' roster, they certainly have a decent amount of needs before they can truly contend for a Super Bowl.
- Tight end could be considered a need, but it is far down the list
- Brad Holmes clearly does not value tight ends enough to select one at No. 6
- The Lions NEED to address the defensive side of the ball with the No. 6 pick
Which TE did the Detroit Lions select in this 2023 NFL Mock Draft?
According to Ryan Robert of @BleaNetwork, the Lions will select TE Michael Mayer out of Notre Dame, which would cause the fan base to erupt.
Bottom Line
The bottom line is that the Lions will almost certainly address the defensive side of the ball with the No. 6 overall pick in the 2023 NFL Draft. But even if they do decide to take an offensive player, there is no way in hell that they will take a tight end, even one as talented as Mayer.
