With the 217th overall pick in the 2022 NFL Draft, the Detroit Lions selected outside linebacker James Houston out of Jackson State.
Nicknamed “The Problem”, The 6’1, 225 lb. Houston started his career at the University of Florida, where he tallied 100 tackles, 4.5 sacks, and three forced fumbles. He then transferred to Jackson State, where he would go on to earn several All-American honors while also being selected to play in both the NFLPA Bowl and the East-West Shrine Game.
Houston is in Allen Park along with several of his new teammates for Rookie Minicamp, and he’s certainly grateful to have such an experienced coaching staff to work with as he begins his NFL journey.
“They’re all great man, from the head coach all the way down,” he said. “They’re all former players, passionate, and just experienced. They understand what an athlete needs and how to get everything out of athletes.”

And the Lions are hoping that his arrival will be an extreme blessing as well, considering the fact that he led all FCS players with seven forced fumbles, was tied for second with 16½ sacks, and racked up 24½ tackles for loss last season.
