Detroit Lions rookie Penei Sewell, Detroit’s 1st round pick out of Oregon in the 2021 Draft, has filled in for the injured Taylor Decker at left tackle and has performed well so far in his young NFL career.
However, it sounds as though he’s getting ready to move to right tackle.
“To be honest, I want (Decker) back, know what I mean?” Sewell said after practice on Friday. “Whatever that looks like. And I think that will be him on the left and me back on the right. He’ll just make our line so much better. He’s already a big name in this league, he’s already established himself, and I have to do the same.”
“He brings a totally different dynamic to this O-line,” Sewell said of Decker. “It really just creates a whole different motivation for myself because he’s the standard, and I got to chase him and go from there.”
Despite performing well so far in his young NFL career, Sewell was one of Detroit’s lowest-graded offensive lineman during Sunday’s loss to Baltimore, and was called out by head coach Dan Campbell.
