When the 1st Round of the 2020 NFL Draft concluded, Detroit Lions general manager Bob Quinn already knew exactly the player he wanted to select in the 2nd Round. That player was running back D’Andre Swift out of Georgia.
The question was, would one of the two teams selecting ahead of the Lions grab Swift before Quinn could make the pick?
As we know, Swift was still available when the Lions were on the clock and now he will be wearing the Honolulu blue and silver, hopefully for years to come.
Swift recently spoke to reporters via a conference call and he was asked about his competition at the running back position, Kerryon Johnson, who was also a 2nd Round draft pick when he came out of Auburn.

“I’ve been competing all my life,” Swift said Thursday on a Panini conference call. “Kerryon is a great back, great player. I remember when he was at Auburn, and he was killing us. He’s still doing great in the league.
“I can’t even give you my role. Whatever role they have for me, I just gotta make sure I’m in the best shape and know all of the plays so I’m ready to take it on full force. But I’m not going in there looking to do anything, just doing what I’ve been doing.”
Swift also talked about how Lions QB Matthew Stafford, who has been “a great leader” has already been very helpful to him.
“He’s welcoming me in,” Swift said. “Just any questions I have about the offense, or even off the football field.”
