Should the Detroit Lions sign this former NFL receptions leader?

On Thursday, there was excitement in the air as the Detroit Lions took the field to take on the defending Super Bowl Champion New England Patriots in the first preseason game of the 2019 season.

Unfortunately, for the Lions and their fans, the wind was quickly taken out of the sails when veteran wide receiver Jermaine Kearse suffered what is almost certainly a season-ending leg injury.

That being said, Kearse was brought in to provide depth and a veteran presence and the Lions will likely look to replace him.

I recently published a piece listing a trio of potential targets for the Lions if they want to replace Kearse. (Click here to see that list) But after looking back and scratching my head a bit, maybe there is another solution.

That solution is Pierre Garcon.

Now, I did not forget about Garcon when I created my initial list, he was left off purposely because of he just turned 33 years old. His age, coupled with the fact he has only played in 8 games in each of the past two seasons is a cause for concern.

That being said, the Lions are not looking for an every down receiver who can go out and catch 90-100 passes this season. They are looking for a guy who can be a No. 4 or No. 5 type receiver who also can provide veteran leadership.

Garcon, who led the NFL with 113 catches with the Washington Redskins in 2013, could be the guy to come in and fill the shoes of what the Lions were hoping to get out of Kearse. Though he only played in 16 total games over the past two seasons, he did haul in 64 catches for 786 yards over that stretch.

Nation, do you think the Lions should sign Pierre Garcon?
