Detroit Lions team source: Kenny Golladay did go missing on Saturday

Ok, this is starting to resemble a tennis match.

Following the Detroit Lions loss to the Indianapolis Colts on Sunday, Jason La Canfora of CBS Sports said on television that Kenny Golladay was not at the Lions team facilities on Saturday when he was supposed to be and that he is not happy about the fact that he still does not have a contract extension.

We passed along what La Canfora said as a rumor since local writers were not immediately able (or willing) to confirm nor deny it.

Then, MLive photographer Mike Mulholland tweeted out that he was behind Golladay at Chick-fil-A and the Lions receiver was buying food for himself and some of his teammates, so he must have been at the team facilities.

As soon as that tweet came out, some local beat writers and blogs hopped on it and called out La Canfora for making things up…again.

Then, on Monday morning (not sure what took them so long), both Kyle Meinke of MLive and Justin Rogers of the Detroit News reported that there was nothing to see here and that Golladay was where he was supposed to be on Saturday and that he did not miss any team meetings and that all was well between him and the team.

Later in the day, Lions head coach Matt Patricia spoke to reporters and when he was asked about the rumors/reports about Golladay, he said that his receiver was where he was supposed to be in the morning, afternoon, and even for bed check.

“Kenny was here in the morning, Kenny got his COVID test, Kenny was here in the afternoon actually for some extra work on his body,” Patricia said. “Kenny was here at night and Kenny was at bed check, so he was here.”

But according to Dave Birkett of the Detroit Free Press, a Lions team source told him that there was a point where Golladay was, in fact, missing in action, causing the team to search for him.

“A team source told the Free Press that Golladay took part in the morning walk-through Saturday, but the Lions did not know where he was for a period later in the day and had to track him down to return,” Birkett wrote.

When asked a follow-up question about whether or not Golladay was at all team meetings on Saturday in their entirety, Patricia said he was keeping things in house and that he did not know where that report came from.

“I think I’m good on Kenny Golladay questions for Saturday,” he said. “Look, I keep everything kind of in house as far as what we do with our meetings and who’s required to be where and when so I don’t really know where that report came from, but that’s all I’m going to say.”

Something fishy is going on here but when it comes to reporting the facts, Dave Birkett does just that.
