Detroit Lions to participate in joint training camp practices

The Lions will practice with the Colts prior to their preseason game

This weekend, the Detroit Lions are holding their rookie minicamp in Allen Park and Saturday was the day that the media was able to attend.

Prior to Saturday’s practice, Lions head coach Dan Campbell spoke to the media and he revealed that his team will be participating in joint training camp practices with the Indianapolis Colts, prior to their preseason game.

“We’ll be with the Colts,” Campbell said. “We’re going out to them for that week.”

On Friday, Campbell spoke about the benefits of joining another NFL team for practices prior to the start of the regular season.

“I just think you get two really good (practices),” Campbell said. “First of all, it’s a change in intensity, because you’re going against another opponent. Sometimes even as intense as you try to make your own practice, just to be able to go against another opponent just levels the stakes. It levels the intensity, which you need that. Their bodies need that. They’re competition. Just to raise the stakes a little bit goes a long ways for your guys. So to be able to get two really good days against them—and then certainly the preseason game—I think it changes up training camp, but there again, it raises the intensity and competition. And different competition is always good.”

The Lions will wrap up their rookie minicamp with practices on Saturday and Sunday.
