Antonio Brown has requested a trade, should the Detroit Lions make an offer?

On New Year’s Day, a report from Jason La Canfora surfaced saying that Antonio Brown has requested a trade from the Pittsburgh Steelers. The report notes that though Brown is not demanding a trade, he has issues with Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin and quarterback Ben Roethlisberger and he would rather play elsewhere moving forward.

Of course, as soon as this report came out, a number of Detroit Lions‘ fans expressed that their team should try to trade for Brown.

So, should the Lions consider making the Steelers an offer for their star wide receiver?

The answer is pretty simple, in my opinion…

NO!

There is no doubt about it, the Lions could use another wide receiver now that Golden Tate is with the Philadelphia Eagles, but the price tag would be WAY too high for to pay for one of the least important positions on a football field.

Instead, I would prefer the Lions go out and sign a free agent wide receiver such as Adam Humphries rather than making what would be a moronic trade.

In addition, the Steelers trading Brown would be similar to the Lions trading Matthew Stafford, it just would not make much sense because of the cap hit each team would take.

If the Steelers were to trade Brown, to any team, they would reportedly take a $21 million dead money hit to their salary cap.

So, if you see people out there saying the Lions should trade for Antonio Brown, just ignore them, he is not going anywhere.

UPDATE…

According to Ian Rapoport, Brown has not made an official trade request to the Steelers.

If the Detroit Lions make this BOLD combo of moves, they will win the NFC North in 2019

The 2018 version of the Detroit Lions sucked horribly. The head coach sucked. The offense sucked. The defense sucked. Heck, even the special teams sucked at times.

So, with that established, what can be done during the offseason to turn things around on time for the kickoff of the 2019 season?

Though I have a few ideas up my sleeve that would help the team to improve greatly, the biggest idea is one that will likely blow your mind. Mostly because I am not sure if it has ever been done before.

In my opinion, there is one BOLD move the Lions can make this offseason that will, in turn, put the wheels in motion for a 2019 NFC North Title run.

Now, I get it. You are probably already shaking your head and calling me a moron for thinking the Lions have any chance in 2019.

But they do.

IF and ONLY IF they make this BOLD move. (Technically it is a trio of moves but stick with me)
