At this point, it would be more surprising if the Detroit Lions do not trade the No. 3 pick in the 2020 NFL Draft than if they do trade it.
The question is, what kind of package will the Lions get in return for a pick that would likely be used to select Tua Tagovailoa?
Well, according to a recent three-round mock draft published by Kevin Hanson of Sports Illustrated, the Lions trade the No. 3 pick to the Miami Dolphins for a whopping four draft picks. Those picks include the Dolphins No. 5 overall pick, No. 31 pick, No. 141 pick, and their third-round pick in 2021.
From Sports Illustrated:
Proposed trade: Miami sends the 5th, 39th and 141st picks plus their third-round pick in 2021 to Detroit for the third pick.
5. Detroit Lions: Jeffrey Okudah, CB, Ohio State
Signing Desmond Trufant to a two-year deal made it easier for the Lions to trade Darius Slay, but ultimately those two moves are a net downgrade for the secondary. Before those moves, the team was in need of an upgrade opposite their top cornerback. A complete corner, Okudah possesses an ideal blend of size, length, athleticism and competitiveness to develop into a shutdown corner for the Lions early in his career.
Here are the Detroit Lions’ remaining picks in Hanson’s 3-round mock:
No. 35 – Ross Blacklock (IDL) TCU
No. 39 – Brandon Aiyuk (WR) Arizona State
No. 67 – Robert Hunt (IOL) Louisiana-Lafayette
No. 85 – Bradlee Anae (EDGE) Utah
Nation, would you be satisfied with this trade down scenario?
